The Central Jakarta administration is intensively promoting waste sorting program or waste management in neighborhoods (RWs) spread across Central Jakarta. Today, it is started from RW 04 and 06, Galur Urban Village, Johar Baru.
It's been a month, we have been monitoring and evaluating waste management in each neighborhood
Cleaning Control Division Head, Binsar Siregar said, the waste management is in accordance with Gubernatorial Regulation number 77/2020 on Waste Management in Neighborhoods. There were at least 198 out of 389 neighborhoods in Central Jakarta that had run the program.
"It's been a month, we have been monitoring and evaluating waste management in each neighborhood. We can say only one to five percent of neighborhoods run the program," he expressed, Thursday (12/9).
Jakarta Promotes Theme 'Jakarta Awareness of Waste' on World Environment DayHe explained that there should be a
city-level socialization to directly carry out field visits, as this program is not easy which requires awareness from the community."To residents, today we immediately set an example by weighing those who have done waste sorting and we will give wages for the results. It aims to trigger other residents to do the same thing and immediately we record. To start with, they can sort the waste at home by separating organic and non-organic waste," he explained.
Galur Urban Village Head, Ati Kusmiati said, 50 households in each neighborhood were targeted to actively run it. It was necessary to carry out a weighing movement three times a week and transport the waste through PPSU and Environment Sub-agency cars.
"Those who haven't done it can follow in the footsteps of their neighbors to join this activity," she expressed.
Leha (57), a resident of RW 04 Galur Urban Village admitted, she had been doing the sorting of plastic drink bottles since two months ago. In every weighing, he claimed to be able to collect 1-2 kg of plastic bottle caps
"Because there is a lot of waste, I took the initiative to collect the used bottles. I also received information from the RW Chairperson regarding the weighing of waste by the Central Jakarta Environment Sub-agency," she stated.
